Beginning with the lush valleys, apple orchards, and charming mountain villages of Kinnaur, the journey gradually transitions into the rugged cold desert landscapes of Spiti, making the experience more scenic, immersive, and ideal for acclimatization.
From the beautiful Sangla Valley and Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border, to the stunning views of Kalpa and the ancient monasteries of Tabo, Dhankar, and Key, every day brings a new Himalayan experience. Day 1: Chandigarh – Thanedar (~ 6 hrs/199 kms)
Arrive in Chandigarh and begin your scenic drive towards the peaceful village of Thanedar, located in the Shimla hills. The drive passes through pine forests, charming hill towns, and beautiful valleys. Thanedar is known for its apple orchards and panoramic views of the Himalayas. Check in to your hotel and relax amidst the tranquil surroundings. Overnight stay: Thanedar (7700 ft/2350 m) -
Day 2: Thanedar – Sangla Valley (~ 4.5 hrs/139 kms)
After breakfast, continue your journey into the dramatic landscapes of Kinnaur. Drive along the Sutlej River through rugged mountain terrain and traditional Himalayan villages. By afternoon, reach the picturesque Sangla Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by snow-covered peaks and lush meadows, Sangla offers spectacular views and a peaceful atmosphere. Overnight stay: Sangla (8900 ft/2621 m ) -
Day 3: Signature Hike – Rakcham to Batseri
Enjoy a beautiful signature hike from Rakcham to Batseri village (9800 ft/3000 m). The trail runs through scenic meadows, wooden bridges, traditional houses, and apple orchards, with the Baspa River flowing alongside. This easy to moderate hike offers an authentic glimpse into the culture and lifestyle Kinnaur villages. Return to Sangla in the evening and relax. Overnight stay: Sangla (8900 ft/2621 m ) -
Day 4: Sangla – Chitkul – Kalpa (~6 hrs / ~110 kms)
After breakfast, drive to Chitkul, a picturesque village in the Baspa Valley, known as the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibet border accessible to civilians. En route, stop at the scenic Nagasthi ITBP checkpost for stunning mountain views. Spend some time exploring Chitkul’s charming wooden houses, riverside landscapes, and serene Himalayan atmosphere. Later, continue your journey to Kalpa, a charming village famous for its breathtaking views of the Kinner Kailash mountain range. The drive continues through scenic Kinnauri landscapes, apple orchards, and traditional settlements. Spend the evening exploring Kalpa village and enjoying sunset views over the snow-clad peaks. Day 5: Kalpa – Nako – Tabo (4.5 hrs/172 kms)
Landscape begins to change as you move from green valleys into the stark beauty of Spiti Valley. En route, stop at the beautiful Nako Lake, a small high-altitude lake surrounded by mountains. Continue the drive to Tabo, home to the famous Tabo Monastery, over a thousand years old and often referred to as the “Ajanta of the Himalayas.” Overnight stay: Tabo (10760 ft/3330 m) -
Day 6: Tabo – Dhankar – Kaza (~5 hrs, ~70 kms)
In the morning, visit Tabo Monastery before driving towards Dhankar, an ancient village dramatically perched on a cliff above the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers. Explore the historic Dhankar Monastery and, if time and weather permit, enjoy the scenic trek to Dhankar Lake, a beautiful high-altitude lake offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Later, continue to Kaza, the main town of Spiti Valley and a hub for exploring the region. Spend the evening at leisure acclimatizing or exploring the local market. Day 7: Kaza – Langza – Hikkim – Komica
Explore the famous high-altitude villages of Spiti.- Langza Village (14500 ft/4400 m) – Known for its giant Buddha statue and marine fossils.

- Komic (15000 ft/4500 m) – One of the highest motorable villages in the world.

Day 8: Kaza – Key – Kibber – Chicham – Kunzum – Chandratal
Begin the day with a visit to the spectacular Key Monastery (13500 ft/4166 m), the largest monastery in Spiti Valley. Continue to Kibber Village (14,200 ft/4270 m) and cross the famous Chicham Bridge(13596 ft/4,150 m), one of the highest suspension bridges in Asia. Drive further over Kunzum Pass(14931 ft/4551 m), the gateway between Spiti and Lahaul valleys, before reaching the stunning Chandratal Lake (Moon Lake). Surrounded by dramatic Himalayan peaks, Chandratal is one of the most beautiful lakes in the region. Overnight stay: Chandratal (camp) -
Day 9: Chandratal – Manali
After an early breakfast, drive towards Manali via the adventurous Batal–Gramphu route. The journey offers incredible views of glaciers, waterfalls, and rugged mountain terrain. Arrive in Manali by afternoon and spend the evening relaxing or exploring the town. Overnight stay: Manali (6726 ft/2050 m) -
Day 10: Manali – Chandigarh
After breakfast, begin the return journey to Chandigarh. Enjoy scenic views along the way as you descend from the mountains back into the plains. Arrive in Chandigarh by evening with unforgettable memories of the Spiti Valley adventure.
